One of the major problems families today face is the price development of home essentials, such as energy. Electricity is such an important part of our lives. It powers our homes, schools and offices; it is impossible to imagine our lives without it. The problem is that this essential part of our lives is getting really expensive due to global rises in demand and the continuous increase of oil prices. This means that it is more important than ever to think about how we can make savings on our energy bills. And to cut our electricity bills, we must find unconventional ways of acquiring energy, like installing home solar panels or windmill power.
In San Diego residential solar power sources are great alternatives to traditional energy. They use solar or wind energy which is free, is recyclable and produces no carbon emissions. The three reasons just mentioned are why many people are opting to fit wind or energy power units at home. Research tells us, if 25% of households in the United States choose to power their homes using residential power devices, thousands of electric power plants in the country alone could be replaced. This could mean great reductions in carbon emissions and a lot less green house gases the destroy the earth.
Instead of solar power you may want to install windmills for electricity that are great if you want to save money on electric bills, save the environment and even our health. Wind power devices take advantage of this great sustainable energy source, the wind, which will produce energy without emitting any harmful carbon that destroys the ozone. It is a one time investment that could last a lifetime. Wind devices work using the wind to turn the turbine creating mechanical energy. The mechanical energy created is transmitted to wind generators that convert it to electrical energy usable for homes. Energy that is not used immediately can be stored in a battery which can be used during windless days.
There are two major benefits from using wind or solar power systems in your home. One, you can save a lot of money by using residential power, and two - maybe even more importantly - you can help save the environment. Fitting residential wind or solar units is an investment for the future that will cut your costs for a long time; money, which you can spend on more important things like your family's needs. You can also save your money, by availing of the tax cuts your government may offer to people who use reusable energy. Some energy companies also offer the opportunity to sell unused energy if you produce more than what you need. You can also save the environment by using wind or solar energy since you decrease the demand of regular energy from the grid, produced by plants that produce energy while emitting carbon.
So, not only will you save money, you can also save the environment from the ill effects of carbon emissions.

Ditch your usual cleaning products in favor of a 'greener' solution and you'll not only save the environment, you also save money! Green cleaning products are made from natural products and many of them work just as well as the store bought cleaners. With these cleaners you won't have to worry about dangers of skin contact and your kids and pets will be safe. Plus you'll have a few more pennies in your pocket!
Lemons and oranges are excellent cleaning tools. Limes can be used if you find them cheap enough. The citric acid is the secret ingredient. It is even a great way to clean grease. Mixed with water, lemon and orange juice is strong enough to clean yet gentle enough not to hurt most finishes.
Make a room deodorizer by mixing 5 parts water and 1 part fresh orange juice in a spray bottle. This will get rid of smoke, cooking, pet and other nasty odors.
Want a secret on how to clean your microwave? Mix 4 parts water with 1 part lemon juice. Microwave in a microwave safe cup or bowl for 2 minutes. Let it stand for a few minutes you will find that all of the grease and splatters are easily wiped away.
Vinegar can safely be mixed with lemon juice to provide some very strong cleanser, while both are completely save for the environment.
Use baking soda and vinegar mixed together to clean up pet and other stains as well as mold and mildew. Most of your tough cleaning jobs can be made much easier by using a baking soda/vinegar cleaner.
Run a cycle on your coffee maker with little vinegar and a full pot of water. After the coffee maker has run the cycle, toss out the vinegar water and run one more cycle with just water. If you smell vinegar after this cycle, do another cycle with just water and don't use as much vinegar next time. This will clean out the plumbing of the coffee maker.
Vinegar is also a great grease cutter. Try it the next time you have to clean a greasy stove.
Remove brown stains stove by soaking a rag in vinegar. Cover the stains with soaked cloth for 10 to 15 minutes and the stains will just wipe away.
Use rags when you are cleaning rather than disposables like paper towels whenever possible. Rags can be thoroughly cleaned in the washing machine and reduce your grocery bill. Try to wean yourself off of disposables as much as possible. If you do have to use paper towels, purchase recycled paper towels to reduce your carbon footprint. If you are using paper towels be sure to throw them away in paper bags rather then the plastic ones most of us get at the grocery store. The paper will breakdown in the landfills and the plastic won't.
These cleaning tips, if combined with using alternative energy can help drastically reduce your families carbon footprint.

Check your local energy provider and see if they offer any alternative energy sources. It's also worth learning more about alternative energy sources.
Purchasing green products can be expensive which has stopped some people to go green and help out the environment. There are many ways to go green and also save money.
As you replace items that wear out in your home, purchase the green equivalent. Many green products are now comparable in price to their non-green alternatives and you might be able to even make them earn you money back through on-going cost savings .
Low flow toilets and shower-heads are being introduced in all hardware stores. Replace your old ones when remodeling and you will end up saving a lot of water and therefore, money. This might not be the cheapest product, but if you are replacing either item you will be doing yourself a favor by going low flow. Many styles are available as some cities have gone all low flow. Manufacturers scrambled to get many styles of low flow toilets and shower-heads on the market. In case you're wondering you won't even notice that it is low flow.
Wrap an insulation blanket around your hot water heater and hot water pipes. This will save on heat loss and on the power used to heat the water.
Make sure you have a programmable thermostat install in your home. These are very easy to use and they can be set to different temperatures during the day or night or while you are gone. Using a non-programmable thermostat is a great way to keep your furnace or air conditioner running full blast without your knowledge. There are also many alternative energy sources you can use to heat your home such as solar, geothermal or biofuels.
Ceiling fans are a very green way to both cool and heat the room. Switch the fan to reverse for the winter months to keep the warm air moving around the room.
Change your air filter at least every three months. Not only do you get rid of dust and pollens but it's better for your air conditioner. They burn more energy when they have to work hard to suck air through a dust clogged filter.
As they fail replace your regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFB). They eat up less power and they last for years longer than the regular bulbs. Studies show that replacing 5 of the most used light bulbs in the house with CFB will save you $80 a year. If you change your bulbs, this is the place you will see your most drastic savings in energy costs.
Unplug your cell phone charger as well as other unused appliances. These electronics draw a tiny amount of power 24 hours a day, everyday. That adds up to a lot of energy that is wasted.
Purchase local produce at farmers markets. Fresh produce tastes better and is much healthier. When cooking, see if you can use a toaster oven rather than heating up the big oven. Implement a plan so that you have a certain number of days you have food raw. If is fun to try to figure out what to eat and it is healthier for you. A more radicle approach is to try solar cooking or a solar oven in the garden. A great alternative to a BBQ in summer!
There are many techniques to living a green lifestyle. Try out these tips. Collect other tips and implement them slowing so as to not shock you or your family with all of the new ways of doing things. After using these techniques you should compare your energy bills to see how much you have saved. You will also be doing a lot to help out the environment.

A new solar energy technology solution has been put to the test, and has been given the go-ahead for production in Australia.
This new solar power station is based on solar tower technology designed in Germany. The most fantastic thing about this new technology is the simplicity of its design, and its ingenious use of basic principles of physics to create energy.
So what is this new solar energy plant?
This new solar tower, also referred to as a "solar chimney," uses solar power to turn wind turbines.
Solar energy to turn wind turbines?
How does this work?
Well, the simplest way to describe it is to compare it to a huge greenhouse with a large chimney.
As we all know, hot air rises.
The greenhouse within the solar chimney system captures the heat of the sun. The heated air in the greenhouse is then allowed to escape through a huge chimney.
Before the air escapes through the chimney, it is forced to pass through wind turbines, which are in turn used to generate electricity. You can see a diagram of it here.
The beauty of this technology is that it uses centuries-old tried-and-true principles of updraft. This is the same principles used for chimneys in open fire places. When you light a fire in your fireplace, your house doesn't fill up with smoke. This is because of the suction which is created by the hot air rising up through the chimney. This pulls the smoke up through the chimney as well.
But in the case of the solar tower, we are not using a fire to create hot air. We are simply allowing the sun to do its thing: heat stuff up. In this case, the sun heats the air up, and the air rises through the solar chimney as a result.
Australia is the first country to build this type solar energy power plant for commercial use.
The central tower will be over 3000 feet high and 400 feet in diameter.
It will use 750,000 cubic yards of concrete.
The solar energy collector (greenhouse) will contain thirty-million square yards of space. That's more than three and a half miles in diameter.
It will have 32 wind turbines placed at ground level, each capable of creating 6.25 megawatts of electricity.
It will take 34 months to construct.
It will provide a total of 200 megawatts, which is enough to provide solar power in the form of electricity, for over 200,000 households.
The solar tower will create absolutely no carbon emissions, greenhouse gases, or other pollutants in its energy generation process. In other words, it is going to be 100% eco-friendly.

Can you imagine wearing a T-shirt that ran your iPod, or a pair of jeans that recharged your cell phone? What if you had a beach umbrella that ran a TV? Does it sound far-fetched?
Okay, I will agree with you that it does.
Research into photovoltaics and solar energy has, nevertheless, reached a point where these are definite possibilities.
For more information you may also see Thin Film Photovoltaics.
What Are Organic Photovoltaics?
Organic Photovoltaics, or OPV for short, are new types of semiconductors which are based on organic materials.
Although they are still phase of research, OPVs can be produced in thin flexible sheets, and as such they can then be incorporated into cloth or paper.
Due to the fact that they are flexible they can be mass-produced at low cost. So another result of this advanced research could be low-cost mass-produced inexpensive solar cells.
What are Semiconductors?
Rest assured, whether you understand the below or not, it won't affect whether a solar charging T-shirt will work for you (if it ever hits the market).
But I will try to explain it in simple terms, just so you have a better idea of what we are talking about.
The following is a brief description of semiconductors are.
Semiconductors (organic or not) are materials that have either too many free electrons, or have a scarcity of electrons.
Semiconductors which have too many free electrons are called "N-type semiconductors," by scientific types of people.
Semiconductors which don't have enough electrons are called "P-type". P-type semiconductors have "holes." Holes are places where there the atom "theoretically" should have an electron, but does not. (Which just goes to show that reality and theory don't always match up.)
By combining materials that have these qualities, we are able to make electrical components such as transistors (transistors are devices which help regulate the flow of electricity).
Some semiconductors are sensitive to light when they are stuck together. It is these semiconductors that are used in photovoltaic cells. When they are exposed to light, a tiny electrical current is created. This is not a new discovery.
But as I stated earlier, it is new that we are able to create semiconductors out of organic materials. And that opens the door to a whole new range of possibilities.
Incidentally, computer chips are usually made out of semiconductors. So this new discovery might have some interesting applications in the field of computers.
Humanized robots? Artificial intelligence? Who knows.

Thin Film Solar Panels are made up of a lightweight and flexible material which can be rolled up and easily transported. Thus, they are very useful as a source of portable solar power.
The following are some basic facts about Thin Film Solar Panels:
Any person who has ever used a solar-powered calculator has had "hands on" experience with Thin Film Photovoltaics. This technology has been with us for years, creating the solar cell strips which are used to power calculators
Thin film technology has now evolved to a point where we can mass-produce solar panels, through the use of machines not unlike printing presses.
The substance used to "print" thin film solar panels is called solar ink.
Solar ink can be made in any color. In fact, it is possible to design the inks in such a way as to make use of different parts of the light spectrum.
Solar presses print thin film solar panels called solar rolls. A solar roll is 13 inches wide and can be up to 2400 feet long.
A solar roll can be cut to the required size after the solar ink has been printed onto it.
The electrical connections in a solar roll are automatically welded in by laser. This takes away a lot of the time which is required to construct our "conventional" solar panels.
Once solar technology reaches a cost effectiveness, of $1.00 per watt, its prices will be competitive with conventional fossil fuels. TFPV is rapidly approaching this benchmark and could possibly beat this in the near future.
Solar ink can be printed onto fabrics, plastics and metals, allowing one to design solar panels for a wide range of products, each tailored to their specific needs.
Thin film photo voltaic solar panels are not as effective as solid solar panels. It's the fact that it is so much cheaper and lighter than conventional solar panels, that gives it the "edge".
The U.S. military is extremely interested in the development of thin-film technology, and spent 1.7 million dollars at one laboratory last year in order to facilitate the development of thin film photovoltaics. It's interested in using thin film photovoltaics for troop communication devices and to reduce the heat signatures when troops using conventional generators.
Solar shades and tents are now available, using thin film photovoltaics, that provide up to 2kw of power. This allows them to operate laptops, communication devices, TVs and much more.
Thin film photovoltaic devices are now widely available on the consumer market. A good example of this is the flexible Brunton Solarroll which comes in several sizes.
A thin film flexible solar panel weighing less than a pound is capable of recharging a laptop. Due to its flexibility, it can be rolled up and transported easily.
Thin film photovoltaics are also a realistic source of emergency power. This makes them a handy and economic addition to emergency preparedness kits and wilderness survival kits.
Current research on thin film photovoltaics is aimed at increasing the power output of thin film solar panels, should it achieve this goal there is a very good possibility that we will have solved the problem cheap clean renewable energy.

What are thin film solar panels, and what could possibly be so exciting about them?
Thin film solar panels operate in the same manner that regular solar panels do, the only difference being that they are a lot thinner and require far less materials and energy for construction.
This might not sound extremely spectacular, but in fact it is. It's a major breakthrough in solar technology.
Why are Thin Film Solar Panels so Important?
The reason thin film solar technology is considered to be such a major breakthrough is because, until now, the two barriers that have prevented solar energy and solar technology from becoming mainstream energy providers have been the 1. the cost to produce them, and 2. the problems in mass-producing them rapidly.
Both of these problems have been solved. This paves the way for rapid expansion of clean energy in the form of solar power.
What is Thin Film Solar Technology?
Thin film solar technology is a method of putting extremely thin films of photovoltaic material on to a thin layer of backing for support.
This is made possible through new inventions, such as Solar Ink. A photovoltaic material is dissolved into a solution, that is then printable as ink. It is then printed out, similarly to how books are printed.
Because of the invention of solar ink, it is possible to print photovoltaic material onto thin layers of plastic fabric or metal. This printing process is extremely fast, and thus it allows you to mass-produce solar panels at a high speed and at only a fraction of the cost.
Whereas, in the past, solar panels were bulky and weighed a serious amount, thin film solar panels weigh almost nothing and take up almost no space. This means that solar panels can now be produced at only 5 percent of the cost, as compared to our old bulky solar panels.
Uses of Thin Film Technology
The new possibility of literally printing solar panels onto materials such as fabric, plastic and metal, has opened up new doors in the application of solar power.
Some of the uses now possible are as follows:
- RVs Campers Boats GPS devices
- AA battery solar charger
- Military, Police and Emergency Services:
- Remote sensors and data transmitters
- Cell phone chargers
- Warning/safety lights
- PDA chargers
- Solar field shelters
- Rollable solar chargers
- Highway/transportation lighting and signals
- Water pumping systems
- Medical refrigeration systems
- Metal roofing Membrane roofing Architectural fabric
- Satellite phone chargers
- Solar-Powered Radios
The above are just some of the ways that solar power can be and is being used, with the advent of thin film solar panels. I am sure that many more uses will be added, now that the price and manufacturing barrier of solar power have been broken.

The New Stimulus Plan For Solar Power Green Energy
In the coming year when the new U.S. administration takes control over the economy. We will see a stimulus that will include green energy steps toward green power . Since our demand for renewable energy will continue to get stronger, eliminating carbon dioxide emissions will require adopting green energy practices. However, the cost has been prohibitively high for most of the commonly used and available methods. Generating energy from home has many possibilities, including getting a rebate or check from the power company for excess power that you've sold back.
One would hope that incentives given by the government will include, tax credits given to tax payers in some form of a credit on their taxes for energy efficiency purchases. Some tax credits were established under the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The credits can be taken on weatherization, windows, vehicle purchases and appliances. The specifics can be found out from the IRS, local government and your energy company. The credits are available to individuals and businesses.
The Next Step In Wind Power Energy Efficiency
Some local governments and state governments already give incentives to residents that are energy efficient. To find out if you qualify for such incentives you should contact you local power company and department of energy.
Incentives are a great way to get people on board with energy efficiency. They can make someone choose an energy efficient product over one that is not. Energy efficiency incentives are something that may not be around forever, so go ahead and take advantage of them and move tward energy independence now.
Purchases of certain energy star appliances may make you eligible for rebates. These rebates are offered by partners of the energy star program. Many times your local power supplier will provide a list in addition to energy star.
Solar energy efficiency is very well the basis of the future of energy in this country. The homeowner will benefit from the incentives.
The Focus On Solar Power Wind Power
Public and private entities will benefit from the new administrations focus on wind energy making the U.S. energy independent .
Solar energy is a favored renewable and it is easily available . The new advances in solar energy are moving it quickly to the forefront of alternative energy sources. New equipment has been developed that allows for energy to be stored for use later when the sun is not out.
Several recent innovations in solar technology have brought us to the brink of affordable solar power that can be used anywhere. Flexible film solar can be built into just about anything, from awnings to bikinis. Now we will start working on affordability. New advances on how to put the flexible sheets together has recently become available. Even solar paint is on the horizon.
The next step to really getting solar everywhere as it should be it to have similar revolutionary advances in storage technology.
03rd December 2008
It will be very useful if people have better understanding about "what is solar energy". It may help ,many people to find a new way to overcome the problem of fuel energy scarcity. What's more, let's find the answer of "what is solar energy" in the following paragraph.
In actual fact, solar energy is the sun's power utilization. That is the first answer for the question of "what is solar energy". It can either be used instantly or stored in cells for later use. Web can utilize solar energy in three different ways: solar photovoltaic (PV), active solar energy, and passive solar energy.
What is Passive Solar Energy?
Passive solar energy applies the position and orientation of rooms to get the most out of the sun's warming effect on the room. It also uses effective insulation and air-tight construction to lessen heat loss from solar-warmed rooms. The use of passive solar can be done with very little time or money. In fact, new homes being built today are built with these principles because they assist save energy costs.
What is Active Solar Energy?
The alteration of solar energy into high temperature is engaged in the active solar energy. It’s used to heat the air and the water in your home. You can heat the air by applying the solar energy then distribute it by using fams and pumps. At the present times, you can find that many homes all over the world already use solar energy to warmth the water in their homes.
What is PV Solar Energy?
Photovoltaic (PV) solar energy applies sunlight to convert the energy of the sun into useable electricity. While PV cells don't entail direct sunlight, the charge will be larger when the light is stronger. This is the kind of energy that is being used when you see the large collection panels on top of a building.
Lots of small electronics have already used PV energy such as calculators and outdoor lights. It’s increasingly being used to supply power to houses that may not have access to the power grid. For owner who want to turn to clean, renewable energy rather than using the existing power grid, panels are becoming easier to find and less costly to install.
What is Solar Energy's Future?
To answer the question "what is solar energy's future", it requires us to think about the condition of energy today. Some experts predict that solar energy will become one of the major selection energies that we utilize to power our lives. We have known that the cost of solar energy is expensive but some experts predict that it will alter in nearly time. Then lot of people will decide to shift to the renewable and cleanest energy sources for their life.
Are you still at sea of knowing more about what is solar energy actually? Just look around your best answer herein!
